Memory Population & Configuration Rules
- Always populate DIMMs in balanced, matched pairs per memory channel for maximum bandwidth and stability
- Do NOT mix DDR5 RDIMM (Registered) and DDR5 UDIMM (Unbuffered) types in the same server
- Do NOT mix DDR4 and DDR5 modules — they use different sockets and are electrically incompatible
- Do NOT mix DDR5 RDIMM and DDR5 LRDIMM (Load-Reduced) in the same server
- If mixing DDR5-4800 and DDR5-5600 DIMMs in the same server, all DIMMs will run at the lower speed (4800 MT/s)
- Maximum operational memory speed is always governed by the installed processor — a faster DIMM will not exceed the CPU’s supported memory speed
- For optimal performance, use HPE SmartMemory modules throughout — do not mix HPE SmartMemory with third-party standard DIMMs in the same server
